Action Required

  1. Administer first aid treatment.
  2. Call 911.

  3. Notify Administrator/Designate immediately of the accident.
  4. Secure, barricade or isolate the scene.
    Leave the scene intact - do not clean up.

  5. Notify the Health and Safety Department immediately.

Injury Reporting: Who is Injured?

Description

Ontario regulation 834 (under the Occupational Health and Safety Act) defines a critical injury to any person as the following:

  • places life in jeopardy,
  • produces unconsciousness,
  • results in a substantial loss of blood,
  • involves the fracture of a leg, arm, hand or foot, but not a finger or toe,
  • involves the amputation of a leg, arm, hand or foot, but not a finger or toe,
  • consists of burns to a major portion of the body, or
  • causes the loss of sight in an eye.
